Forestry 101: Conserving The Earth’s Forests The world’s ecosystem is changing now. It’s getting worse day by day and the bitter truth of it is that we humans are the cause of this problem. Global warming, species dying, the next extinction seems to be coming. What helpful things can you do as a human being? Forestry gives fundamental knowledge about how to take care and conserve our forest. Forests are one of the main components of nature, so let’s start with it.
Deforestation to Disruption Every single day, hundreds of species die because of deforestation. Hectares of forest are being cleared of trees without being replanted with new seeds. Humans keep on industrialising wildlife locations which in turn destroys the forest’s ecosystem. The forest contains different species of flora and fauna. Some are endemic to specific places like the Nile River and Australia. A single species that die can affect the whole ecosystem itself in a particular place. Take tree-living exotic snakes for example. The snakes eat rodents while birds of prey such as owls and eagles hunt them. If their population is either decreased or depleted, rodent population will rise while food source for the birds will lessen. This is how critical deforestation is. Same goes in Yellowstone National Park. The staffs in there released 14 wolves in hoping to save its dying environment. Fortunately today, the ecosystem in the famous park changed drastically in a positive way. More animals returned and more plants bloomed. We all learn in our Science class that trees are not just home for animals. Associated with other plants, they help absorb carbon dioxide while releasing oxygen, which also helps balance our atmosphere. But despite of this knowledge, most humans never cared and thought about the effects of their deeds. They keep on slashing and burning the forestry around the world. Because of mass deforestation, the world’s ecosystem just became critically disrupted. Conserving ForestsBy Forestry Forestry is the science of understanding and managing the natural resources within the forests. These resources include wood, water, plants, and all the wildlife in its ecosystem. The experts behind it critically study the ecosystem within the forest as well as finding ways to conserve it. According to the World Resources Institute, more than 80 percent of the Earth’s forest has been destroyed. It is because of our doings. Humans seem to be Earth’s parasites today. Infesting it, and slowly killing it. For the government, instead of wasting funds to go live on Mars why can’t they just use the money to save our own planet? It doesn’t make any sense at all. I’m hoping that forestry must be thought carefully in every class worldwide and further encourage the people to conserve our forest. In forestry, they teach ways and engage activities to reforestation like tree planting and field trips. Forestry lets the people know the importance of a balanced ecosystem, as well as encouraging them to plant more trees around. Even though Mother Earth seems to be giving up now, we still have chance to save her. We just need to help each other protect and conserve the forests as well as its inhabitants. Comments are closed.
